In cooperation with SI Coatings, a subsidiary of the Huehoco Group in Wuppertal, Germany, Evonik has developed a water-based primer based on VESTOSINT® polyamide 12 powder, which can be used for steel preparation in the fluidized bed coating process. Polyamide coatings provide corrosion protection to metals, so they need to be applied uniformly to ensure that they do not peel, water, and scratches from the outside for long-term protection. Evonik's VESTOSINT® polyamide 12 powder for fluid bed coating processes has proven its excellent properties in practical applications for many years. Previously, steel parts with large surface areas, especially concave parts, were pre-finished with a solvent-containing primer to ensure excellent adhesion, for example, in contact with water.

Talking about the opportunity of this cooperation, Dominic Störkle, Head of Product Line Additive Manufacturing and Materials Solutions at Evonik, said: "The concept of environmental protection is embedded in Evonik's corporate strategy. We hope to jointly develop a product based on Evonik's VESTOSINT ® water-based primer for polyamide powder." Evonik and SI Coatings have accumulated a lot of expertise and experience in the fluidized bed coating process of polyamide powder and adhesion promoters. Safe and reliable water-based primer that does not require special handling techniques such as fume hoods. This product is not required to provide a label under the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). Its residual solvent content, ie volatile organic compounds (VOCs) content, is less than 2%. This primer, Si Coatings 100011-00L, has an aquatic hazard rating of WGK1, has a shelf life of six months in a frost-free environment, is suitable for brushing, spraying, dipping, scraping, and is acceptable in a fluidized bed process at 300°C Heat around to bake. Typical applications include the interior and exterior coating of automotive driveshafts.
